OUR STORY
Yarty was started by Jayne and David in the Yarty Valley, a stunning valley which runs from the Blackdown Hills in Somerset down to Axminster in Devon.
Our cordials and vinegars are inspired by recipes created by Jayne’s Great Grandmother, Mabel Plascott. Mabel trained in Mrs A.B. Marshalls cookery school, Mortimer Street, London in 1914... a distinguished cookery school for young Ladies of its day. They would use fruit cordials within their cooking to bring extra flavour to dishes. In the days before fridges, cordials were one of the only ways to preserve certain ingredients.
She would go on to serve the grand country estates of the New Forrest during the 1920’s and 30’s. Finding herself in great demand with the gentry and visiting Royals.
Yarty moved to Southsea where we continue to handmake our artisan products. The ingredients remain natural and sourced as locally as possible from Hampshire and the Southwest.
Today we handcraft our cordials inspired by those old family recipes; developing our own special method of gentle pasteurisation. It enables us to create products packed full of flavour without the addition of any artificial preservatives. We think Mabel would approve!
As well as our wonderful customers cooking at home… we have been delighted to work with a variety of corporate clients; including film, television, festivals and high-end restaurants. We have supplied trade kitchens for many years and began exporting internationally in 2022.
It’s always a joy when we are asked to create bespoke products, finding new flavour solutions for creative chefs! We take pride in our unique and innovative combinations.
Thank you to everyone who has followed our journey so far… I wonder where we’ll go next!
We’d love to hear from you
